Converting Breedfiles (without Unibreeds)
You will need LNZPro for this tutorial. Please remember to make backups of all your files before you begin!
Before converting a breedfile, please make sure that you have permission to do so. Not all creators like to have their breedfiles converted by others and the Petz community tries to respect the wishes of hexers who work hard to give us all nice things!
Converting an over-writing file is easier than converting a non-overwriting file.
For an OW file, first open the file you want to convert in LNZPro. In this example I am using a Petz 4 Orange Shorthair OW that I want to convert to Petz 5.
The two sections that change the appearance of the file are under LNZ. The first (OR in this case) determines the adult's appearance. And ORKIT is the kitten. The abbreviations will be different depending on the breed and whether it is a dog or cat but they will always be there when you expand the LNZ section.
Select this entire section that appears to the right and copy it. Then open the base breed from your target game (Petz 5 in this case) and simply paste the entire section into the corresponding adult and puppy/kitten sections of the Petz 5 breedfile so that it overwrites the original.
Save and you're done!
Save and you're done!
If you want to convert a non-OW file, first open your file and check what breed it is based on by expanding the LNZ sections. For example I can see that this non-OW file is based on the Siamese.
Open the Siamese breedfile from the game you wish to convert to and copy the LNZ over exactly like we did earlier.
Once you have done that, go back to the non-OW file you want to convert and click on RCData to find out what the breed's ID number is. You will want to use the same one when you save your new breedfile.
Once you know the ID number, go back to the breedfile you pasted all the LNZ info into earlier. Go to File -> Save as and give the file its new name. This name should match the name of the file you are trying to convert.
Once you have chosen to save, the above box will pop up. Follow the steps to make a new breed, inputting the correct Breed ID to match the file you wish to convert. At the end of the process you will have a non-OW file that is compatible with your chosen game version and matches the original!
